Hi, my name is Ryan Metzdorff. I use RMETZEN because it’s a combination of my name and partly of Chris Metzen whose fantastic concept art for the Warcraft I was what first moved me to want to work in the game industry. I have always had an interest in both art and games. This led me to the Art Institute of California Orange County to achieve a degree in Game Art & Design.

I love pixel art and I really like making game sprites. It was a great experience to be able to work on a 2D game for cellphones even as an intern. Since most of most of my training for last few years has been in 3D I’m not focusing on pixel art as a career but it is something I like to do. In 3D I specialize in texture painting since digital painting makes such good use of my artistic talents before I was a digital artist. I’ve always been fascinated with the way objects show wear and tear and how some surfaces tell something about their past and their usage. Painting textures is also in a way an extension of pixel art just using a lot more pixels but the fundamental principles still hold up.

One day I’d like to be a producer at a game studio. I’ve had some experience with it in college and I find that I’m much happier helping a team of people complete their best work than doing one art piece of my own. I find that the team effort is more rewarding.
